Input-Output Unit DIO 16-8 is used to extend the number of digital inputs and outputs of the UST-10Gc Monitoring and Control Terminal. The additional Input-Output Unit increases the number of digital inputs and outputs in case of complex switchgears when there is not enough inputs and outputs of the basic UST-10Gc. The control of the switchgear (disconnecting switch, breaker) is performed through the communication link between the DIO unit and the UST-10Gc. Apart from the function of controlling the devices, the DIO unit signals the state of the switchgear elements on the LED elements. The DIO unit, via the general digital inputs, also provides a function of remote fault monitoring function (e.g. IK-5) as well as transformer protection relays (e.g. NR-300).
Depending on the complexity and importance of the middle voltage switchgear, the DIO units are integrated in communication link with the Remote Terminal DT-10TSp via the UST-10Gc and represents a very economical part of the remote control system of a complex switchgear composed of a series of blocks. If the DIO unit is mounted in a single block of expansive switchgear, the communication link with the Remote Terminal provides great savings in the cabling of the plant and saves time during commissioning and service. The optical connection provides high resistance to interferences, i.e. increases the reliability and availability of the system. If the DIO units are mounted in the DT series Remote Terminal, the RS485 connection is used for interconnection as well as connection with the UST-10Gc Monitoring and Control Terminal.
